UNAMA, Senior Advisor visits MoWA

A meeting took place between Mr. Mc. Ward, UNAMA’s Senior Advisor for Reconstruction of Afghanistan and the Caretaker Minister of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MoWA) on 2 February 2010.

Afghan women related issues and the forthcoming Beijing + 15 to be held in New York March 2010 were the subjects of the meeting. The Hon. Minister confirmed the willingness and readiness of MoWA to participate at Beijing + 15 when the Commission of the Status of Women would be undertaking a fifteen-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the twenty third special session of the General Assembly. She added the delegation to the Conference would be feeding into the national and regional review processes and that they also look forward to sharing their experiences and suggestions to overcoming obstacles and challenges.

Minister Ghazanfar called on the support of the international community in relation to implementing the 10-Year National Plan of Action for Women in Afghanistan (NAPWA).
